Oklahoma Flute Society
A commitment to new repertoire is at the heart of my identity as an artist. To that end, much of my service work is on the board of organizations that support that mission and support a diverse range of performers. The Oklahoma Flute Society (OFS) alternates solo and flute ensemble commission projects, to serve the flute community in and around Oklahoma; I have officially served as their commission coordinator since 2019, but have been involved in their commissions for much longer. Below are several projects I've helped to bring to fruition.
Nicole Chamberlain Asphyxia (2016)Asphyxia was commissioned by the Oklahoma Flute Society for the final round of the 2016 Collegiate Competition on April 1, 2016 at the University of Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Flute Society Flute Fair.
The word asphyxia is a medical term for a person's inability to breathe and lack of oxygen in the body. The symptoms of asphyxia can be light headedness or dizziness. A verteran flutist will seldom experience dizziness. However, when relentless extended techniques are added, new athletic demands can bring the most experienced to gasp for air. |
